Groom's Responsibilities



While traditions fade and modern weddings tend to become more personalized, the list of responsibilities traditionally assigned to to the groom is still a good starting point:

Wedding Bands
While brides and grooms choose wedding bands together, the groom is responsible for negotiating with the jeweller and purchasing the wedding band. He is also responsible that the wedding band arrives save and sound at the wedding ceremony ? usually with the help of the best man.

Guest List
The groom is responsible for drawing up his side of the guest list, allowing room for the bride's guests and respecting the budget set by the bride's parents.

Choosing the best man
The groom chooses the best man for the wedding. Because the best man plays a central role in the wedding the groom should take careful consideration in choosing the best man.

Attendants Attire
The groom usually chooses the style and dress code for groomsmen and best man. In most cases he picks up the tab any tuxedo rental or any other purchases for the groomsmen's attire.

Wedding License
The groom should organize the wedding license and any other legal documents that may go with the wedding (for example blood tests in some instances). This includes the prenuptial agreement.

Transportation
The groom is responsible for organizing the transportation to and from the wedding ceremony for himself and the bride. This includes limousines, carriages or similar transport. Don't forget formal dress for the driver!

Honeymoon
The groom is in charge of planning the honeymoon and make the necessary reservations. The groom also picks up tab for the honeymoon and any related activities.

Speech
The groom should write a speech and deliver the speech at the wedding reception. A groom's speech usually consists of thanking everybody involved in the wedding and praise for his bride. Jokes are better left to the best man.

Returning hired items
While on honeymoon the groom is responsible for organizing that somebody (usually the best man) collects and returns hired items such as a wedding dress, suits, candles, cars, etc.

Returning home
It is the grooms responsibility that returning home from the honeymoon is arranged. This includes a place to stay as well as arrangements for moving his own and his wife's furniture. Arranging a pleasant home coming, well ahead of time, will avoid an abrupt and painful end to the honeymoon.
