While your wedding invitation is a very personal item, there is some information that you can't go without. Here are 6 must haves for any wedding invitation.

Who is getting married? Make sure your invitation clearly states who is getting married. If you're commonly known by a nickname or shortened version, it is advisable to use what you're know by rather than your christian names. Don't assume that everybody will know who you are – your finance's guests won't necessary be that well acquainted with you.

When the wedding will take place Although it seems like a basic piece of information, dates can be fraught with difficulty. Be on the lookout for ambiguous dates, for example 07/09/2008, or even worse, 07.09.08 With more and more people spending time in other countries, these dates can mean 3 very different days, so don't assume that your audience's interpretation will be the same as your own. Write the name of the month in full and, even better, include the day of week as well. For example, Saturday 2 November 2008.

Where the wedding will take place Be clear about the full street address of the wedding and reception venues. More than likely, some of your guests will be from out-of-town so consider including detailed directions or even a map to the venue.

RSVP contact details Include the contact details with whom guests should RSVP. It is a good idea to include the contact details of more than one person, just in case the first person can not be contacted for some reason. Phones break. Lines go down. People move.

Children Does the invitation extend to the children of the invited guests or not? Many couples prefer a more formal atmosphere and prefer not to have children attending the wedding. Others love to have children around. Whatever your personal choice, let your invitation clearly state your intention.

Dress code State the dress code that you prefer to have at your wedding. Take into account the season and time of day when selecting a dress code.
